MANGBETU TRIBE AND SKULL ELONGATION
Here’s something intense.
The Mangbetu tribe elongated their skulls. The custom is called Lipombo. It was a status and beauty symbol but the Belgian government soon outlawed it.
They managed to achieve this by wrapping the heads of newborns tightly with cloth to give them a streamlined look.
that has to be painful.
It kind of reminds me of the foot binding in China. The world had (still has) some intense standards of beauty
Or the neck braces in some parts of Africa, where they stretch the neck to be incredibly long with metal hoops.
Or this strange medical procedure where they cut open chest flesh and insert these silicone gel implants.
Strange world we live in!
